# iBOS Connect Explained

### What is iBOS Connect?

iBOS Connect is the intuitive, secure solution that transforms your building into an intelligent and smart ecosystem, filled with useful tools and services. It securely links your building to the cloud, providing a new level of visibility into your building and its services, remotely and from any device. As a powerful standalone solution, iBOS Connect helps digitize and automate building operations. With iBOS Nexus and iBOS Connect in your building, you are just one step away from adding smart services like iBOS Energy and other future digital solutions.

### How does iBOS Connect work?

The brain behind the platform is the iBOS Nexus, and the SEM (Secure Edge Module) that's installed on the device. Once you install an iBOS Nexus in Connect, the SEM creates a secure tunnel between the device and the cloud, making it possible for you to access via iBOS Portal.

### So what about "iBOS Portal" then?

Good question! In all essence, the Portal (or iBOS Portal) is the place where you login to access everything. So you could think of it as the user interface for iBOS Connect that makes it possible for you to control and access the locations that you have access to. Via the Portal, you do the rest of your setup such as setting up secure tunnels to underlying systems/HMIs, setting up the access management on the location, etc. So, in all essence, the product that you/the customer is using is iBOS Connect, that you access through iBOS Portal.

### What are the other benefits of iBOS Connect?

Once you've installed your iBOS Nexus and made it available in iBOS Connect, you can securely access it via iBOS Portal. From here, you can now utilize all of the other tools within iBOS Portal to create secure tunnels, do network scanning, or adding applications such as iBOS Energy, or integrate with 3rd party applications such as Niagara. All of this is done without the hassle of VPNs, remote desktops and other external tools, as this is handled via iBOS Connect instead. To make it even more secure, iBOS Connect is also connected to the authentication solution Auth0, to make sure that accessing the data is secure with 2FA or SSO.
